(Alternate:) BOO! Halloween is one of the most popular holidays in America. In days leading up to Halloween the young and old alike start crowding in the malls and stores in search of costumes, decorations, outfits, and accessories in order to create that perfect spooky evening. However, this year like everything else, COVID put a stop to a lot of those activities but thanks to creative thinking, people still figured out many clever ways to "trick or treat" safely and stopped COVID from ruining Halloween completely. In this blog, we'll talk about how Halloween was different in this highly unusual year.
First, let's talk about one of the most important things: Costumes! Costumes this year was mostly like any other shopping expedition. The only downside is mostly the fact you can't try on the costumes before you try it, but this is a minor inconvenience.
Next, how did trick or treating actual work? Well, look at the picture below!
Very creative. Even at this time, people are still managing a way to celebrate their favorite holidays. We saw many many fun decorations. Many people have given creative titles to their PVP pipes, for example in the picture above it was called "Candy Machine." Totally awesome! We saw one family who went ALL out. They had an entire Area 51 makeover complete with signs, aliens hopping in and out of barrels, masks, and real-live aliens(not really). Most houses, however, went with the short and sweet option of what I like to call "Table Candy." This is when people just put out a bowl or table with their candy. It is nice, and easy to access without any worries about COVID. It was overall, at least in my community, very safe. It was fun and everyone was wearing masks, the Halloween stores also becoming very safe. People have still gone all out decorating their houses.
How did you safely celebrate Halloween?
Here are some more photos from my experience!:
What a fascinating house! This house was by far a piece of art. I love the cute inflatable skeleton animals. Combining the innocent animal of a unicorn as a skeleton was both humourous and a new sight.
Lights, lights, and more lights! Very pretty sight! In addition to beautiful aesthetic lights, you also have some finely carved pumpkins and some cute ghosts finished off with a lit-up tree. While most people didn't go all out like this house, you at home can still add a few lights and decor to make your house more "spooky."Yummy! This year this was the most popular way of giving out candy. This is a great example of Table Candy! Most went with a simple bowl or table, but we saw some people who decorated their table with lovely gravestones and flickering candles.
More just as a nice side decoration, some people just put out some nice pumpkins that give a warm feel, with nice autumn colors, and some light up pumpkins.
Ooh, what could be more spooky than a giant cat and spider on your front lawn? While this house wasn't giving out candy, it was still quite a sight to see the giant animals playfully bashing around in this person's front yard.
